Canada Forgings Inc. is among the very few companies in North America that has the capabilities to deliver quality forgings in all three main segments of the forging market – Open Die, Closed Die and Seamless Rolled Rings. We specialize in forgings for the US and Canadian Oil & Gas industries, and have been supplying quality forged components to the US Defence Industry for many years.
Markets
CanForge produces high quality, specialty forgings for the most demanding and sophisticated engineering applications.
Applications for CanForge products include jet engines, nuclear reactors, gas turbines, mining, pipeline, off-road equipment and pressure vessels.
US and Canadian Markets that CanForge supplies include:
- Oil & Gas Production
- Aerospace
- Defence
- Road and Rail Transportation
- Mining
- Power Generation including land based Turbines, Nuclear and Wind Turbines
The Benefits
Forging metal produces desirable characteristics that cannot be attained easily through machining, welding, or casting. The act of forging breaks up the cast structure of the raw stock and refines its grain structure. Areas of low density, micro-shrinkage, and gas porosity are consolidated, resulting in a component of increased strength, soundness, and durability.
CanForge's products are created through forging processes that include but are not limited to the following:
Open Die Forging. Open die forging deforms the metal using flat dies to repeatedly pound the work-piece while it is constantly manipulated. The movement of the work-piece, therefore, is critical to producing the correct shape.
Closed Die Forging. Closed die forging features the same benefits as open die forging but offers three dimensional control. Two dies containing the impression of the desired shape deform the metal. This process is good for creating forgings that are smaller or involve more intricate shapes or impressions.
Upset Forgings. Performed on bar stock, this type of forging decreases the length of the bar by expanding the cross section. The metal is forced to gather into a specific shape creating tools, bolts, or rods of exceptional strength and durability.
Seamless Rolled Ring Forging. These forgings are made by creating a doughnut-shaped preform through open die forging. The shape and diameter for the preform change under high pressures exerted by a rolling mill. The result is a forged ring with a fine, unified grain structure that does not require additional machining or burning processes. We offer seamless rolled ring forgings in a wide variety of materials including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and aluminum as well as High Temperature Alloys, High-performance Alloys & Superalloys.
The Difference
CanForge is a well established forging company, founded in 1912, with a long and successful history of producing quality open die and closed die forgings for various industries across the US and Canada.
Based in Welland, Ontario, within the Niagara Peninsula, with easy access to both Canadian and American markets, we have been producing high quality forgings for the most demanding and sophisticated engineering applications for more than 100 years.
The company has two plants located within minutes of each other. Our Open Die plant produces Open Die forgings up to 40,000 lbs and features one of North America's premier facilities for the manufacture of seamless rolled rings up to 128 in.
We are also able to produce Bent Crane Hooks with a designed max load of up to 350 tons, making CanForge one of the few plants in North America with this capability.
Capabilities
CanForge is a fully compliant ISO 9001:2008 certified company, accredited with the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP). CGP operates in conjunction with the US ITAR program (meeting requirements of Section 126.18(c)(2) of the ITAR), enabling us to offer trustworthy, competitive quality goods and services to companies across North America.
The Closed Die Plant occupies 80,000 sq. ft. of production space and is equipped with double action air hammers up to 10,000 lbs. supported by appropriate heat treating, cleaning and quality assurance facilities. There is capability for forging products up to 450 lbs. along with a Machine Shop equipped with die sinking equipment.
The Open Die Plant occupies 122,000 sq. ft. of production space. This plant operates Ontario’s largest open die pull down hydraulic forging press (3300 tons), together with two other open die presses of 1200 and 600 ton capacity respectively, and is complete with hammers, heat treating furnaces, a full Machine Shop and complete destructive and non-destructive testing facilities. This plant produces forgings to 40,000 lbs. and seamless rolled rings up to 128 in diameter.
Value Added Process Capabilities for Forgings.
As a leading forging supplier to North American companies, CanForge is happy to provide value added services to make procuring forgings as easy and as cost-effective as possible. Whether you are based in Massachusetts or Texas, Pennsylvania or Oregon, South Carolina or Michigan, Georgia or Oklahoma, or other regional and national areas in the United States and Canada, such as Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec, you can benefit from CanForge's value added process capabilities which include:
