CanForge Is Proud to be Part of Ontario’s Commitment to Nuclear Energy
Canadian based forging supplier CanForge has partnered up with tier 1 suppliers to Ontario Power Generation and Bruce Power.
CanForge is proud to work with the OPG and Bruce Power supply chain by providing steel products to one of the largest clean energy projects in Canada. Specialty open die and closed die forgings are an integral part of the major component replacement projects for both utilities. Over 200,000 sq ft of manufacturing space allows us to keep these programs on time and on budget.
Darlington Nuclear is the source of about 20 per cent of Ontario’s electricity along with Bruce Power contributing 30 per cent, these refurbishments will benefit the residents of Ontario for an additional 30 years. The Darlington and Bruce Refurbishments will generate billions of dollars in economic benefit for the province, and thousands of jobs over the next 10 years.
Both Darlington and Bruce facilities operate CANDU reactors. CANDU stands for CANada Deuterium Uranium, because it was invented in Canada, uses deuterium (also known as “heavy water”) as a moderator and coolant and uses uranium as fuel. This reactor design provides cost-efficient power with minimal emissions.
